Vigor of maize seeds and its effects on plant stand establishment, crop development and grain yield

Abstract: Seed quality is extremely important for agribusiness, as it can affect the stand establishment, well competitive ability of plant, affecting its yield potential. The aim present work was to evaluate initial development and production performance maize crop a function vigor seed lots. experiment consisted 10 treatments, involving two factors: stands (ideal number plants ideal seeds corrected by seedling emergence test in bed); five lots (63, 68, 83, 87 99% vigor), according results cold test. experimental design randomized block design, with four replications. following parameters were determined along cycle: plant height; chlorophyll cover index; cycle; final populations; components grain yield. use high-vigor favors soil cover, positive influence on grains per ear population pre-harvest, addition reducing cycle. High-vigor promote gains yield; each increase 1.0 percentage point level lot, estimated test, reach 43.5 kg.ha-1.
